Sensible SEO For The Smart Blogger

Search engine optimisation. You either love it or you hate it.

SEO is important for every blogger. The most successful bloggers (most of which use affiliate marketing for their websites) generate the majority of their traffic from the Google search engine.

Some feel at constant buzz trying to keep up with the engineers at Google (or trying to outsmart them through devious techniques).

Although technical search engine optimisation is really important for some websites, there’s one super powerful optimisation technique that us bloggers can get really good at.

Yes you’ve guessed it. It’s blogging. In other words, content.

I’m not just talking about any content. I’m talking about great content.

First though, i’m going to touch on one of the most important SEO rules.

The Super Important SEO Rule

The most important thing when thinking about rankings is to never do anything for SEO that will potentially mess up the experience for the reader.

Silly things like overstuffing your content with keywords.

Anything that makes your site less usable, or reduces the effectiveness of your message, should probable be changed.

Here are a few recommendations to help make your site a better experience for your readers:

  1. Answer Visitor Questions

If you want people to stick around on your website, answer their biggest questions. Get in the head of your prospect and think about the questions they would have for you.

People use a search engine in the first place because they have questions that they want answered.

If you know enough about your topic, you can definitely help with that.

2.  Speak The Same Language

If you want to be relatable to your audience, don’t churn out industry jargon words that nobody knows. Instead, speak the language that your audience speaks.

This brings us onto keyword research.

Keyword research is all about figuring out the language that your audience is actually using to search for content.

There are tons of great tools out there for finding different types of phrases that your audience is using to search for a particular thing. It’s also worth paying attention to how your audience talks about the topic on social media.

What words do they use?

What questions do they ask?

3. Cover Your Topics Extensively

Content marketing and SEO people love writing articles about how many words your content should have. Over the last few years, the recommendations have fluctuated dramatically.

How about following this simple procedure.. your content should be as long as it needs to be to get your point across effectively.

Some ideas can be expressed without writing 5000 words. While others will need more space to answer all the questions and cover the whole topic in great detail.

Don’t assume that everyone has the attention of a gold-fish. People pay attention to useful content that is easy to digest.

4. Ensure Your Site Is User-Friendly

You can have the best content in the world, but if your website is ugly or not user-friendly, people will bounce of that thing asap.

Ensure everything on your website is easy to read and absorb. Make sure your content has clear calls to action, so people know the next step to take.

While we’re on the topic of aesthetics… if your site looks like it was built in 1999, you need to make a change as soon as possible.

I can’t tell you how many times i’ve hit the back button on websites that are jut straight up ugly!

It doesn’t cost anything to build a beautiful website. Most themes provide you with a push-button install solution.

5. Cover The Bigger Picture

Covering your topic comprehensively is very important, but it isn’t just about going deep with your content.

You also want to cover the horizontal topics by answering questions like…

What is the context for your chosen topic? What are the industry trends? What’s changing? What do people need to know before getting involved? What’s the first thing they need to do to get started?

And the list of questions go on.

Every topic is part of a larger overall context that you can explore. Exploring this will help you visitors understand the topic even better and help position your website as an authority in your niche.

Resources For Blogging & Online Business

You’ve probably noticed that the internet is a massive place packed full of information. Many of us spend countless hours looking through articles and browsing information that isn’t valuable to us. It can be difficult to find the best content out there when the volume is just so high.

The nature of the internet also makes it very difficult to focus. Distractions are abundant and it’s so easy to get lost in a trail of things that are completely unrelated to what we’re supposed to be doing. The average attention span is now literally less than a goldfish. A good way to combat this is to develop great browsing habits that stop you from getting distracted.

Whether you’re looking for online business ideas or for a way to get started with blogging, i’ve decided to compile a list of useful content I’ve come across recently.

There are websites that consistently stand out in terms of quality and actionable, valuable content that will really help you drive results in whatever you’re doing and I’ll be sharing some great resources with you today.

Looking To Start An Online Business?

There has truly never been a better time to start an internet business. The advancement of technology coupled with the sheer variety of opportunities available at the moment makes for a wonderful landscape that is packed full of business opportunity.

Some things to bear in mind before jumping into any business venture:

  • Make sure you can dedicate enough time to build it out into something that will make money for you. There’s no point spending two hours a week on something. Side businesses can be great but you still need to put the work in.
  • You head needs to be in the right place. If you’re coming from an “opportunity seeker” mindset, you’ll jump between different business opportunities and succeed at none of them. You need to pick something and stick with it until you get results. Stay laser focused and dedicated to your choice and be consistent with your work.
  • Don’t pick something you hate. This is quite an obvious one but I feel like I just need to put it out there! Everything in your business will be so much harder if you don’t enjoy working in it. Granted, you won’t be having the time of your life with any business venture (especially when you’re just starting out) but at least try to go for something you have a vested interest in.

Hidden Strategies Of Successful Bloggers

hidden strategies of successful bloggers

Blogging monetization is a multi layered strategy. You need to access the first layer to better understand and access the next layer.

When you have the audience and the basics of your blogging monetization set up you’ll want to make the most of what you have. That usually means monetizing your audience better. If you think of your audience as a person, let’s say for the sake of this example that your audience is your cousin Sarah and your brother Ken, they represent everything that your audience is.  You have a very successful blog about how to live a healthier life. Ken and Sarah really love your posts, they exercise the way you tell them to on your blog, they even eat what you tell them to and sleep when and how much you tell them to.

Now for just one moment consider the power you have on Ken and Sarah’s life, they really value you as a partner and are committed to doing what you propose.  In some way they are already giving you profit, due to the monetization technics that you already have in place on your website.

But Ken and Sarah go to the grocery store almost every day, they buy clothes almost every week, they go to the bookshop every month and probably once a year they travel to another country.

With affiliate marketing you can tap into these profit opportunities in Sarah and Ken’s life.

The Power Of Affiliate Marketing

When we are talking about affiliate marketing we need to understand that you can represent big brands or small brands through specific affiliate marketing programs or you can represent almost everything through a general affiliate program such as Amazon. Meaning that anytime Sarah and Ken buy healthy products on Amazon that where suggested by you, you get a share of that revenue. That is not limited only to food, books on self improvement, clothes, sporting gear that you recommend but also to an adventurous trip that you recommend for summer vacation.

Of course that trip cannot be recommended through Amazon, at least not yet. There are multiple sources finding affiliate programs to join to. You can use Clickbank, ShareaSale, Linkshare, to find some of the best affiliate programs but you are not limited to these platforms. Aside from Amazon you have iTunes program for example that gives you an opportunity to tap into a great market of digital products that are widely loved and recognized.

This is the hidden strategy used by the bloggers that make the most revenue from their websites. As an affiliate you can get huge commissions for great products that your audience already buys.

Monetising Your Blog Through Email List Building

Email lists will be your most valuable asset in the long run when it comes to monetising your blog. It’s like having your prospects phone number and giving them a call, every 15 days. Actually, it’s better than that, with a good email list you’ll reach your target audience at the tap of a button.

How big should your Email list be?

As big as possible. You want to have as many contacts as possible in order to reach your audience easily with your new content and products. But don’t forget that having a list that is not targeted to your niche is fairly useless. The value of your email list is that they know who you are and they subscribed to hear more about you because they already like what you have to offer. So don’t try any black hat tactics. Buying email lists is a complete waste of time. These lists have been thrashed multiple times by people, avoid like the plague!

Most people don’t have huge email lists, other people are just starting their list and that’s okay. Start gathering some emails with a newsletter on your website. Email lists take time to build that’s why we wanted you to have this strategy to have things rolling faster!

Offer a Giveaway that really interests your audience. Something as simple as a ten page report on how to “insert something that you are teaching here” will do. Don’t forget how important it is to give valuable information, information that your audience can’t get anywhere else!

Just before your “Get it Now” button ask for their email address. You’ll see your list build up within days!

Now let’s get to what really matters.

What should you do with that email list?

Simple. Do what you already do.

Send them an email when you have that cool article coming out, they will be glad to hear from you. How does that turn into cash? Any visitor equals a money making opportunity if you have advertising on your blog.

Your focus should be to keep your audience coming back. As simple as that!

Now, every once in a while, you should use your mailing list to make a few extra bucks. Tell them about your new products or products you are endorsing.

In the long run, your email list, if treated with care can be your biggest source of revenue for your blog. It may not seem much when you are starting out but as your list grows so do the money making opportunities that are associated with them.

Don’t forget to treat your email list as a friend! Build that relationship by providing transformational value to your prospects! It will pay back in dividends in the future.

Create Your Own Product?

create your own product

Something that only a select few bloggers think about when it comes to monetising their blog is creating their own product. And that’s okay, because there are other sources of revenue you can tap into. But if you want to tap into the real revenue-generating power, then you should consider creating your own product.

Most of us have a lot of expertise, we can be great cookers, great coaches, football players or understand children’s issues and struggles. But if you are a successful blogger you should definitely try to make more money from the public you have.

A successful blog is measured in traffic, not on how much money the blog is making. But if we are honest, money is always an important part of the equation.

To have a steady income you should focus your efforts in having multiple revenue streams, more than one or two ways of making money with your website. Being that if one of your monetization methods fails you one month, the other revenue streams will make you feel safe and give you financial stability.

Having your own product is the ultimate money making aspiration for any blogger, because your revenue per sale is huge in comparison to all other monetization opportunities.

How to create your product:

First avail your audience, those are your buyers so if you don’t get this first step right you might as well not do it at all.

Let’s imagine that you have a Daily Recipe Blog. You need to create a product that will give value to your fans. Make them love your product as much as they love your blog and you’ll be just fine!

Secondly, think of something you can do. If you can write, (and you do, after all you are a writer!) write a book. In this example it can obviously be a recipe book, something that you know a lot about. But if you have car themes blog for example be creative, you can always write tips to having your car at it’s best shape at all times.

Or then again, write the Secrets to the greatest cars in human history! You can have the title, but mostly just write about what you know and give value to your visitors!

Once your book is ready, revise it. Make sure it’s not filled with typos, and that you don’t repeat yourself too often. Your fan’s time is valuable, don’t waste it!

You know the saying, “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”… But then again, people do. So you should worry about that. Hire a graphic designer and demand their best work. It will be worth it.

Now that  you are ready to launch your product you need to define if it’s going to be a physical or digital product.

If you are starting out and testing the waters, just go with an e-book. It’s your cheapest option to test if your audience will love it. As soon as you see your product sales spiking, then turn your product into a physical book. Your bank account will thank you for it!

Tips For Affiliate Marketing Mastery

There are so many different ways to market your business, but why waste your time with techniques that don’t really work on your blog? Affiliate marketing will get you the attention and sales that you want to see. If you’re a complete newbie to the world of affiliate marketing I would highly recommend reading this comprehensive post on Bengu Marketing.

In order to run a successful affiliate marketing business, you have to attract the right consumers to your website. Writing articles that are relevant to the product or products you are selling, is an efficient way to do this. For example, if you are promoting natural health remedies, post articles on your website about arthritis, the benefits of natural health remedies or how garlic can ease joint pain. This may seem obvious but you’d be surprised at the amount of blogs that post irrelevant information. Consumers looking for information that pertains to the products you are sponsoring are more likely to pull out their credit cards and increase your monthly sales.

Check the company’s reputation. Working with a company who has a bad reputation is pretty obviously a bad idea, but dig a little deeper to see how their underlying reputation looks. They may have undisclosed issues, like a lawsuit that hasn’t made the news yet. You don’t want to affiliate yourself with a company that will, in the end, damage your reputation as well.

Affiliate promoters should embrace new selling methods, such as text-message campaigns. This is still a relatively new service, but already there are thousands of affiliates using this text service to keep their customers informed and to promote new products and affiliate offers.

You should check often to see how well banners, text links and recommendations are doing. If you find that one is doing better than another, you should change your tactics so you can yield maximum profits and sales results. Checking these statistics quite often will increase your earning commissions.

Pre-sell the offers that you want your readers to buy. Just adding a link to a product is not going to make you much money. Explain why you love the product and why you are someone they should listen to. Include the benefits that you have received from the products.

When implementing affiliate marketing on your site, always inform your readers of your affiliations. Be up front about your relationship with the vendor; failure to disclose that you receive some degree of revenue from the advertisements can often make many customers feel as though you are trying to be dishonest or promote the vendor simply to make a quick buck.

An affiliate website’s success depends on the site’s ability to attracting visitors. Your ability to attract visitors depends on two simple factors. The content you create and your strategies for promoting that content. Your content should be so good that people can’t resist sharing and linking to it. This is called a “linkable asset”. Linkable asset are one of the best ways to rapidly grow your following. People love valuable content that is easy to read and full of actionable tips!

It is important to encourage visitors to stay on the site and convince prospective customers to visit the retailer’s site. It is a good practice to reward returning customers or the ones making larger purchases in the form of a sample product or gift.

Your affiliate website should complement the products your retailer offers through your links. Positive feedback, additional descriptions, personal recommendations encourage visitors to click on the merchant’s links and buy the products you promoted, which generates income and provides compensation for your work. Help your visitors to make the decision to buy your retailer’s products.

Make a content site with affiliate links, not an affiliate site with some content added as an afterthought. Web surfers are a smart bunch. They can generally tell when a site exists only to pitch a product or service. Choose a topic you are passionate about and write articles about it, then research affiliate products that dovetail naturally with the subject.

If you don’t have the techniques down to make money, let’s face it, you aren’t making any money! Don’t let random information about marketing fill your head, apply the information you have learned about affiliate marketing from this article, and get the attention and sales that you dreamed your business would have.
